Judy and her husband Barry are the Co-Founders of the STEM School and Academy and the Alexandria School of Innovation. Judy wrote the STEM School and Academy Charter and designed the unique curriculum for both the STEM School and the STEM Academy’s Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) before and after-school program, creating over one hundred unique hands-on classes taught by highly-qualified business and industry professionals. During the successful design and launch phase of the project, Judy served as the Program Manager, managing hundreds of educators, business and industry professionals, community stakeholders, and parents. Judy is also an outstanding fundraiser and together with her husband Barry they raised over $300,000 during the inaugural year of 2011-2012 by securing several large federal, state, and foundation level grants for STEM School and Academy . More than $1 million in start-up funds were raised by the Brannbergs to launch and open the STEM Project. Judy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Colorado Christian University in Organizational Management Project Management where she is a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Judy has a Master of Science Education degree in Science Education from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). During 2011 and 2012 Judy participated in the prestigious UCCS Partnership in Innovative Preparation for Educators and Students (PIPES) Research Program, funded by a grant from the Air Force which sought to respond to the looming shortage of skilled science, technology, engineering and math educators and the lagging performance of students in science and math through innovative and supportive partnerships with parents, educators and professionals.  For more information about our research labs, partnerships or after-school programming please contact Judy at 303.522.2158 or at

Barry Brannberg  022 LBarry Brannberg – CEO / President and Owner

STEM Ventures LLC as well as STEM School and Academy are the brainchildren of entrepreneur Barry Brannberg, who designed and created most of the original innovative features of his unique model. He co-authored the STEM School and Academy charter, together with his wife Judy. Barry is a Certified Real Estate Broker Associate with Realty Trends and as a skilled business professional, Barry provides the finance and accounting expertise to develop sustainability, capacity building and the infrastructure necessary to manage the educational entrepreneurial endeavors in a fiscally conservative manner. Barry is a talented graphic designer, webmaster, and fluent in many of the programming computer languages and graphic design programs. Barry studied Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University and Secondary Science Education at the University of Northern Colorado. As an innovative entrepreneur and venture capitalist, Barry has successfully started and managed a handful of non-profit organizations, all whose vision and mission has been to assist youth.

Here is a list of what was accomplished the first year under Barry’s leadership as President:
* Managed the build-out for the conversion of the warehouse to an educational facility with classrooms and science labs in 2011.
* Managed the STEM School and Academy business office wtih the financial oversight of Board Member Walter Berger and Office Manager Carmel Connolly
• Managed a fiscally conservative budget of over $3 million and saved over $100,000 in Tabor reserves the first year.
* Wrote and successfully managed the $195,000 CDE Start-Up Grant
* Wrote and successfully received a $9.9 CECFA Bond to purchase the STEM School and Academy building and do the renovations to add 9 classrooms for the 2012-2013 school year.
* Negotiated the lease and purchase of the STEM School and Academy building at 8773 Ridgeline Blvd.
* Managed the build-out of the renovation of 9 classrooms
* Purchased the drive-line property from Shea Homes
* Secured a $250,000 start-up loan from First Bank
* Raised $1 million in start-up capital to open the school

Cindy Williams – Senior Director, STEM Ventures Experiential Learning E3, STEM 4 All and Research Labs

Cindy WIlliamsSTEM Ventures has recruited the skills and talents of Cindy Williams to serve as the Senior Director of STEM Ventures Experiential Learning E3, STEM 4 All and Research Lab programs. Cindy is a highly accomplished executive with over 25 years of domestic and international experience in the gold mining industry, primarily with Newmont Mining. In her last Newmont assignment, Cindy served as the Vice President of Solutions and Innovations, managing enterprise-wide Innovation plus Global Technical Functions including mine engineering, resource modeling, geotechnical-hydrologic engineering, metallurgical characterization, laboratory research, process development and energy. While at Newmont, Cindy served as the highest ranking female employee, managing half a billion dollar annual budgets and hundreds of technical staff.  She delivered strong business results leading technical services, innovation, exploration, project evaluation, project development and technical due diligence with complex global scope. Cindy has Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Geology from Colorado State University, where she graduated through the University Honors Program and with Highest Distinction.  She also holds a Certificate in Executive Leadership from the University of Denver.

Maureen Moore Roth – Education Director of STEM Ventures Research Labs, STEM 4 All and E3

Maureen Moore RothMaureen Moore Roth provides the perfect blend of education and business and industry expertise for the STEM Ventures Project. Maureen graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a double major in Earth and Space Science Education and a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Maureen has experience teaching high school students Earth Science and Honors Space Science, where she organized and directed inquiry based cooperative learning activities. After completing her student teaching she received a Master of Science in Economic Geology and Ore Deposits from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. As an honor’s student, Maureen is a member of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Honor Society.  At her most recent assignment, Maureen served as a Geologist at Newmont Mining where she participating in the Emerging Talent Program and Exploration Business Development. Maureen provides a spark of enthusiasm and excitement for all STEM students and is an excellent role model.  Maureen has a broad variety of connections in the business and industry geology, mining and space sector that she is excited to share with our students.  It is with great pleasure that we introduce and welcome Maureen to the STEM Ventures Team!

Diane Phillips – Director of Special Projects

DianePhillipsDiane Phillips has joined the STEM Ventures Team as the Director of Special Projects where she will assist Judy Brannberg with the November 2 Event. Diane will coordinate 1.) Prizes and giveaways, 2.) Resource Fair with business and industry professionals together with representatives from higher education, and 3.) Parent volunteers and student assistants. Diane comes to STEM Ventures with a wealth of experience in fundraising and special projects with the Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association and other community organizations. Most recently Diane served as the PTO President at STEM School and Academy where together with the Founders she helped raise nearly $300,000 in the first year of the charter endeavor! Diane was also very active in the PTO and fundraising at Platte River Academy where her son attended school for many years. Diane is married to Michael Phillips, who is a Lockheed Martin Fellow and Space Vehicle Integration Lab (SVIL) Chief Engineer and is a Lockheed Martin Fellow. Michael is the Chief Mentor/Scientist of the STEM Ventures Aerospace, Design, Modeling and Engineering Research Lab. Read more about Michael.
